Bedford Pumps are delighted to have been crowned Winners of the prestigious Environmental Contribution of the Year category at the 2024 British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA) Pump Industry Awards which took place on Thursday evening, 14th March.
The accolade was presented during a glittering Awards Ceremony presented by Martin Bayfield and Touchwave Media, held at the Hilton Hotel at St Georges Park Environmental Contribution of the Year was one of eight categories presented on the night.
Bedford Pump’s received their Award for the largest submersible pump installation in southeast Asia as part of a vital flood defence scheme. Bedford Pumps manufactured eight 700kW, 1600mm diameter, 20-ton axial flow pumps which each pass 10,000 litres per second to safeguard one of the world’s most flood prone cities. Part of the Jakarta Urgent Flood Mitigation Project, this government backed scheme fulfilled the very highest levels of sustainability for both land and life.
As well as providing a vital defence to a sinking city, the scheme also provides protection to aquatic life. In addition the pumps demonstrate efficiencies far in excess of market benchmarks, resulting in the lowest total cost of ownership
As well as winning the Environmental Contribution of the Year award, Bedford Pumps were also proud finalists in the Project of the Year category.
The Pump Industry Awards showcases the very best achievements from the entire sector celebrating business and professional excellence. They are also a valuable contributor to charities via their renowned “Higher of Lower” Charity Game which this year raised funds for Water Aid.
